Our Amazon adventure starts early in the morning at the town of Lago Agrio. You will meet us at Meeting Point Restaurant (before calling Blue Planet Hotel)
, in Lago Agrio at 8:00 AM. The meeting point is located at Desvio del Puente Rio Aguarico, Nueva Loja. We will pick you up with our private bus and in 2 hours we will drive to the town of Tierras Orientales. There you will be provided with a nice Box lunch.
Here the 5-day Amazon tour begins as we take a 3,5 hour canoe ride to Waita Lodge. This will be your first chance to spot many kinds of animal, like pink dolphins, monkey and birds! Also, you will be able to enjoy the landscapes of the Cuyabeno reserve.
After arrival at Waita lodge, you will have time to unpack and relax. After a delicious dinner, our local guide will give a briefing about the activities of the next days. Then, go and grab your flashlight because our guide will take you on a thrilling night walk to spot insects, spiders, snakes, and other animals.
Our first activity is begins at 06:00 am in the morning as this is the best time to go birdwatching. We will take our rowing canoe to enjoy the sunrise, incredible landscapes, and animal spotting. We will pass through small lakes of the Cuyabeno jungle before returning to the lodge for breakfast.
After some rest in the hammock, the guide will invite you for a 3-hour deep jungle walk. Here the guide will explain everything there is to know about the Cuyabeno rainforest. You will learn wisdom passed on from generations living in the jungle! After this interesting walk, we will return to Waita lodge for lunch.
At 04:30 pm in the afternoon, we will take the rowing canoe to row to the forest flooded by black water. Here we can spot diverse wildlife. Then in contrast, we will navigate a narrow white water river to spot birds that can’t be found in big rivers.
When night begins to fall, we will make our way back to Waita lodge. We will venture downstream in search of caimans, fishing bats, tree boas, and nocturnal birds.
We begin our day at 05:30 am in the morning. These are the best hours to enjoy animal life before sunrise. We will begin the excursion in our motor canoe going down the Cuyabeno river for 1,5 hours. Here, you can enjoy birdwatching until we reach special clay banks. On these clay banks at 07:00 am, parakeets and colourful parrots enjoy their morning meal. An exclusive thing to see!
After breakfast and some rest, we will take the motorized canoe to the Bocana. This is the place where 2 rivers meet and is perfect for spotting dolphins and enjoying beautiful views. After an informative tour, you can enjoy a delicious lunch.
At 04:00 pm a new adventure begins. With our canoe, our local guide will take you to the Bird Observation Tower. This tower, built around the largest tree of the area, is an amazing 28 meters high. This is the perfect place to enjoy stunning canopy views.
Before returning to Waita Lodge, we will take a short night walk around the tower in search of new species of insects. Finally, we will return to the lodge for a nice dinner. On our way back, make sure to spot some caimans!
After an early breakfast at 07:00 a.m, we will take the rowing canoe to add more species to our “check list”. We will row down the narrow white-water river, home to uncommon species, and will try to spot different species of animals.
After a Box lunch, we will enjoy a 3 hours deep jungle walk on the trail of Terra Firme. Our local guide will share more knowledge about the Cuyabeno rainforest, and you will be able to spot more wildlife.
After an exciting day, we will return to our lodge at approximately 16h30. The rest of the night you will enjoy a well-deserved dinner and rest.
On our last day we will take you on our last early activity. This will be a brief excursion into the rainforest or in our canoe to enjoy the awakening of nature. Again, this is a wonderful time for birdwatching and enjoying the final day in the beautiful Cuyabeno jungle.
After breakfast, you will prepare your luggage for the return trip. For the final moments, you will enjoy a 3,5 hour canoe ride back to Tierras Orientales. Here our private bus will take you back to Lago Agrio at 16h00. From here, you can go by plane or bus back to Quito.

Option 1: Quito to Lago Agrio Shuttle Service (Meeting Point)
Our shuttle service departs from designated locations in Quito at scheduled times throughout the week, taking you directly to our new meeting location, Meeting Point Restaurant (formerly known as Blue Planet Hotel) in Lago Agrio. The shuttle arrives at 8:00 AM, and the restaurant is located at Desvio del Puente Rio Aguarico, Nueva Loja. The shuttle service costs $20 USD per person. Please note that pickup times may vary depending on the number of tourists arriving from different locations.
Keep in mind that there is no ATM available at Meeting Point Restaurant, so please bring sufficient cash. A taxi from the Lago Agrio terminal to Meeting Point Restaurant costs around $4 USD.
Option 2: Quito Terminal to Lago Agrio via Public Bus
For travelers looking for more flexibility, public buses depart daily from Quito’s Quitumbe and Carcelén Terminals. The bus fare to Lago Agrio is $17.00 USD, with drop-off at the Lago Agrio terminal. From there, you can take a taxi to Meeting Point Restaurant for approximately $4 USD.
Option 3: Exclusive transfer
For a more expedient and comfortable travel, think about hiring private transportation. The location, size of your group, and kind of vehicle all affect the price. We will be pleased to help you set up private transportation that suits your needs.
TO COCA AIRPORT BY AIRPLANE
LATAM provides daily flights from Quito to Coca; the flight that fits in with our schedule departs at 9:00 AM. Upon arrival in Coca, we will arrange for transportation for an additional fee of $120 (for one to four people). From there, you will drive 2.5 hours to Tierras Orientales where you will meet up with the rest of the group and continue your journey by canoe to our lodge.
The airline only offers a flight back to Quito at 10:00, so you will need to stay an extra night in Coca to catch the flight the following morning. Our staff can assist you in making appropriate accommodations while you wait for your trip
